The sacraments are special rites that Catholics believe were instituted by Jesus to give grace (God’s help and presence). There are seven sacraments:
• Baptism: Welcomes a person into the Christian community.
• Confirmation: Strengthens the grace of Baptism and the Holy Spirit’s presence.
• Eucharist (Communion): Receiving Jesus’ body and blood in the form of bread and wine.
• Penance (Reconciliation): Confessing sins to a priest and receiving forgiveness.
• Anointing of the Sick: Special blessing for those who are ill.
• Holy Orders: Ordaining men as priests, deacons, or bishops.
• Matrimony (Marriage): Joining a man and woman in a lifelong, loving union.
