Mary, the mother of Jesus, holds a special place in Catholic faith. She is honored as the Mother of God and seen as a model of perfect faith and obedience to God. Saints are men and women who lived holy lives and are now in heaven. Catholics ask saints to pray for them, much like asking a friend to pray for you. This is called intercession.
