St. Bernardino Realino was born into a noble family in Capri, Italy, in 1530. Raised with a strong Christian foundation by his mother, he initially studied medicine at the University of Bologna. After three years, he switched to law, earning his doctorate in 1563. His legal acumen led to his appointment as auditor and lieutenant general in Naples in 1554.
Religious Vocation
Realino soon realized his religious calling, which was affirmed by an apparition of Our Lady. He joined the Society of Jesus and was ordained in 1567. For three years, he served in Naples, dedicating himself to the poor and youth. Later, he was sent to Lecce, where he spent the remaining 42 years of his life.
