Gospel Reflection for: July 09, 2024
Daily Gospel Reading: Matthew 9:32-38
In a busy market, a man who couldn’t talk met Jesus. The crowd was amazed when Jesus helped the man speak again by removing the bad spirit that was causing his silence. It was a miracle that no one had ever seen before, showing how powerful Jesus was.
Lending a Helping Hand:
Imagine scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and seeing a friend’s sad post about feeling down or worried. It reminds us that even with the internet, people still hurt on the inside. Like the man who couldn’t speak, they might feel alone and unable to share their pain. But just like Jesus helped that man, we can also help those who are hurting. We can listen to them, share helpful resources, or just let them know they’re not alone.
Ignoring the Negative People:
Not everyone was happy about what Jesus did. Some religious leaders said he was using bad powers. It’s like when you try to help someone online and you get mean comments or people don’t believe you. But Jesus didn’t let those negative people stop him from doing good. He knew his job was to help and heal people, and he wouldn’t let others get in the way.
In the same way, we shouldn’t let mean comments or doubts stop us from helping others. Whether it’s speaking up for something important, volunteering to help others, or simply saying something nice to someone online, don’t let negative people silence you.
A World in Need:
As Jesus traveled from town to town, he saw many people and felt sorry for them. They were like lost sheep without a shepherd, confused and helpless. It’s like seeing lots of sad news stories or posts about people struggling with poverty, unfairness, natural disasters, or personal problems. It can feel overwhelming, but Jesus wants us to do something about it.
He said, “There’s so much work to be done, but not enough people to help.” It’s like seeing a post asking for volunteers to help with a good cause, but feeling like you’re too small to make a difference. But every act of kindness, no matter how small, is important. Even giving a little money to a charity, using your skills to help online, or just sharing a positive message can help make the world a better place.
Answering the Call:
Jesus didn’t just feel sorry for the people; he asked his followers to pray for more helpers. It’s like sharing a post about volunteering and asking your friends to join in.
We can all help in our own way. It could be helping groups that are already doing good things, volunteering our time and skills, or just being there for our friends and family.
A Prayer for Helping Hands:
Dear God,
Please help us see the needs of people around us, both online and in person. Give us kind hearts that want to help. Help us to be like Jesus, bringing healing and hope to those who are hurting. May we always be ready to help others when you ask us to.
Amen.
Conclusion: A Wave of Hope
The story of Jesus healing the man who couldn’t speak and asking for more helpers reminds us that we all have a part in making the world a better place. Just like a small wave can become a big one, our small acts of kindness can have a big impact. We shouldn’t be scared by how much needs to be done; instead, we should follow Jesus’ example of caring for others and take steps to make a difference, one kind act at a time.
May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.
Amen.
