Jesus’ Dream Team: Our Mission to Help

Daily Gospel Reflection

Gospel Reflection for: July 10, 2024

Daily Gospel Reading: Matthew 10:1-7

In a powerful moment, Jesus gathered twelve ordinary men and gave them an extraordinary task. He chose these men to be his apostles, his special messengers, and gave them the power to heal the sick and cast out evil spirits. It was like a superhero team getting their powers and a mission to save the world!

Superpowers and Responsibilities:

Just like superheroes, Jesus gave his apostles special abilities. He trusted them to use these powers to help people who were suffering. It’s like a teacher trusting a student with a special project, or a parent giving their child more responsibilities as they grow older.

In our own lives, we all have special gifts and talents. Maybe you’re good at listening to your friends, helping others with their homework, or cheering people up when they’re down. Jesus wants us to use our gifts to help others and make the world a better place.

The Mission Starts at Home:

Jesus told his apostles to focus on helping people close to home first. It’s like starting by cleaning your own room before organizing the whole house.

We can do the same thing by helping our family, friends, and neighbors. It could be helping a friend who’s feeling lonely, volunteering at a local food bank, or simply being kind to everyone we meet.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work:

The twelve apostles were a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and skills. But they worked together as a team to spread Jesus’ message of love and hope. It’s like a sports team where everyone has a different role to play, but they all work together to win the game.

We can learn from the apostles and work together with others who are different from us. When we combine our unique talents and skills, we can achieve amazing things. It’s like when a group of friends with different interests work together on a school project, or when people from different backgrounds collaborate on a community event.

Sharing the Good News:

The most important part of the apostles’ mission was to share the good news about Jesus and his kingdom. It’s like telling your friends about a great new game you discovered or a movie you loved.

We can share the good news by being kind and loving to others, helping those in need, and talking about our faith with our friends and family. It’s like posting positive messages on social media, sharing inspiring stories, or simply living our lives in a way that shows others how much Jesus loves them.

A Prayer for Our Mission:

Dear God,

Thank you for giving us special gifts and talents. Help us to use them to help others and make the world a better place. Show us how to work together as a team and share the good news about Jesus with everyone we meet.

Amen.

Conclusion: Our Mission Continues

The apostles’ mission didn’t end when Jesus left the earth. It continues today through each of us. We are all called to be part of Jesus’ team, to use our unique gifts and talents to spread his love and light to the world. So let’s embrace our mission with joy, work together with others, and share the good news with everyone we meet.

May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.

Amen.
