Daily Gospel Reading: Matthew 15:21-28 NRSVCE

In Matthew 15:21-28, we meet a woman facing a desperate situation. Her daughter is sick, and she’s heard about Jesus’ healing power. She’s not even Jewish, the main group Jesus taught, but she’s determined to reach out for help. This story teaches us about the incredible power of unwavering faith, the importance of including everyone, and God’s heart for those who humble themselves.

Never Give Up On What You Believe:

Imagine the woman’s determination: she calls out to Jesus, even when others try to shush her away. In our lives, we face all sorts of struggles – health problems, broken relationships, financial worries. The Canaanite woman shows us that even when things seem hopeless, we can’t give up on our faith. Keep praying, keep seeking God, even when it feels like no one’s listening. It’s in those moments that your persistence can break through.

God’s Love Has No Boundaries:

At first, Jesus doesn’t respond. It’s as if he’s saying, “This isn’t for you.” But the woman doesn’t let that stop her. She reminds us that God’s love isn’t limited to a certain group or background. Whether you’re rich or poor, religious or not, God sees you and cares about your needs. So, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not worthy of God’s love or attention.

Humility Opens Doors:

The woman could have gotten angry or argued with Jesus, but instead, she humbles herself. She compares herself to a dog, hoping for even the smallest scrap of Jesus’ compassion. This shows us that humility isn’t weakness; it’s a key that unlocks God’s blessings. When we put our pride aside and admit we need God, amazing things can happen.

Faith That Moves Mountains:

In the end, Jesus is so impressed by the woman’s faith that he heals her daughter. This teaches us that true faith isn’t just about believing; it’s about acting on that belief. It’s about crying out to God, even when we’re not sure he’s listening. It’s about holding onto hope, even when things look bleak. That kind of faith can change everything.

A Prayer for Persistent Faith:

God, when life gets tough and our faith wavers, remind us of the Canaanite woman’s example. Give us the courage to keep praying, keep seeking you, and keep believing that you hear our cries. Help us to see your love for everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from. And may we always approach you with humility, knowing that you are the source of our strength and hope. Amen.

Remember: Your faith is powerful. It can heal, it can restore, and it can open doors you never thought possible. Don’t give up on what you believe. Keep seeking God, keep trusting in his love, and keep your heart open to his miracles.

May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.

Amen.
