Daily Gospel Reading: John 12:24-26 NRSVCE
In John 12:24-26, Jesus uses a simple image from nature to teach us a profound truth: A seed has to die in order to grow into something new and beautiful. This isn’t just about farming; it’s about how we live our lives.
Letting Go to Grow:
Think about those moments when you’ve had to give up something you really loved. Maybe it was a dream job that didn’t work out, a relationship that ended, or even a cherished possession you lost. It hurt, but it also created space for something new to come into your life. Just like a seed, we sometimes need to let go of the old to make room for growth and transformation.
Loving What Truly Lasts:
Our world is full of things that grab our attention – money, fame, success. But Jesus reminds us that these things don’t last forever. True life is found in things that have eternal value: love, kindness, compassion, and a relationship with God. It’s like choosing to invest in experiences and relationships that enrich our souls, instead of just collecting stuff that will eventually fade away.
Walking in Jesus’ Footsteps:
Jesus didn’t just talk about serving others; he lived it out every day. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and welcomed those who were rejected by society. Following Jesus means doing the same. It’s about looking for ways to make a difference in the lives of others, even in small ways. It could be volunteering at a local charity, helping a neighbor, or simply offering a kind word to someone who’s struggling. When we walk in Jesus’ footsteps, we discover a deeper purpose and meaning for our lives.
The Reward That Matters Most:
Jesus promises that those who serve him will be honored by God. This isn’t about getting a trophy or a pat on the back. It’s about knowing that our lives have made a difference, that we’ve used our gifts and talents to bring light into the world. That’s the kind of reward that money can’t buy, a sense of deep satisfaction and fulfillment that comes from living a life of purpose.
A Prayer for a Life That Matters:
God, help us to let go of the things that hold us back from truly living. Give us the courage to invest in what truly matters, the things that will last for eternity. Inspire us to follow Jesus’ example of service and love. And may we find true joy and purpose in knowing that our lives are making a difference in your Kingdom. Amen.
Remember: Just like a seed, you have the potential to grow into something beautiful and life-giving. Embrace the process of letting go, focus on what truly matters, and walk in the footsteps of Jesus. Your life has a purpose, and when you live it for God, you’ll discover a joy and fulfillment that surpasses anything this world has to offer.
May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.
Amen.
