Daily Gospel Reading: Luke 6:12-19 NRSVCE
In Luke 6:12-19, we find Jesus at a crossroads. He’s about to choose twelve disciples, a decision that will shape the future of his ministry. But before he makes this crucial choice, he does something unexpected: he spends the entire night in prayer. It’s a reminder that even Jesus, the Son of God, needed to connect with his Father before making big decisions.
The Quiet Place
Think about those times when you’ve had a tough choice to make – maybe it was a career change, a relationship decision, or even a simple matter of which path to take in life. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure. Jesus’ example shows us that prayer isn’t just for emergencies; it’s a lifeline we can turn to anytime we need guidance or clarity.
- Imagine finding a quiet spot in your busy day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and talk to God honestly about what’s on your heart. It’s in those moments of stillness that we can hear His voice and find the direction we need.
Choosing Your Team Wisely:
Jesus carefully selected his twelve apostles, knowing that they would be his closest companions and the future leaders of his movement. It’s like a coach choosing the starting lineup for a championship game – each player brings unique skills and strengths to the team.
- We all have people in our lives who influence and shape us. This story reminds us to choose our “team” wisely, surrounding ourselves with people who encourage our faith, challenge us to grow, and support us in our journey with God.
Love in Action:
After praying, Jesus didn’t just sit back and relax. He immediately went out and started teaching and healing people. It’s a beautiful reminder that faith isn’t just about personal piety; it’s about putting love into action.
- Think about the ways you can use your gifts and talents to make a difference in the world. Maybe it’s volunteering at a local charity, using your creativity to spread a message of hope, or simply being a listening ear to a friend in need. When we serve others, we’re reflecting the love of Jesus to the world around us.
A Prayer for Guidance and Service:
God, when we face decisions big or small, help us to turn to you in prayer. Give us wisdom and discernment, that we may choose the path that honors you. May we surround ourselves with people who inspire us to grow in our faith. And fill our hearts with your love, that we may serve others with compassion and generosity. Amen.
Remember: Prayer isn’t just about asking for things; it’s about connecting with God and aligning our hearts with His will. When we make prayer a priority, we discover clarity, purpose, and the strength to live a life of service that reflects the love of Jesus.
May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.
Amen.
