Daily Gospel Reading: John 3:13-17 NRSVCE

In John 3:13-17, Jesus shares a powerful truth: God’s love for us is so immense that He sent His own Son, not to judge us, but to save us. It’s like a parent rescuing their child from danger, no matter how far they’ve wandered or what mistakes they’ve made. This message of unconditional love offers hope and a lifeline in a world that often feels harsh and judgmental.

A Love Beyond Understanding

Think about a time when you’ve been deeply loved, perhaps by a parent, a spouse, or a close friend. It’s a feeling of acceptance, belonging, and knowing that someone cares for you no matter what. Now imagine that love multiplied a million times over – that’s a glimpse of God’s love for you.

  • We all crave love and acceptance, but sometimes we feel unworthy or unlovable because of our past mistakes or shortcomings. This passage reminds us that God’s love isn’t based on our performance; it’s freely given, even when we don’t deserve it.

The Rescue Mission

Jesus compares his mission to the story of Moses lifting up a bronze serpent in the wilderness. When the Israelites were bitten by poisonous snakes, they looked at the serpent and were healed. In the same way, Jesus was “lifted up” on the cross, offering healing and salvation to all who believe in him.

  • We all face challenges and struggles in life that can feel like venomous bites – illness, loss, addiction, broken relationships. This story reminds us that Jesus is our healer, our rescuer. When we turn to Him in faith, He offers us hope and a way out of the darkness.

The Choice is Ours

Jesus says that those who believe in him will have eternal life. It’s not a forced decision; it’s an invitation to a relationship. We have the freedom to accept or reject God’s love, but the consequences are eternal.

  • Imagine being offered a priceless gift, but you refuse to accept it. It’s a tragedy! God’s love is the greatest gift of all, and this passage urges us to embrace it with open hearts.

A Prayer of Gratitude and Surrender

God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent Jesus to save us. We confess that we often fall short and don’t deserve your love, but we’re grateful that you offer it freely. Help us to trust in Jesus and to live in a way that reflects your love to the world around us. Amen.

Remember: You are loved beyond measure. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, God’s arms are open wide. Choose to believe in Jesus today, and experience the transformative power of His love.

May God bless you all, and may His love guide you in every step you take.

Amen.
