Saint of the Day: October 2, 2024
Ever feel like you’re juggling a million things at once? That’s kind of what it was like for St. Léger, way back in 7th-century France. He was a bishop, a politician, and a man of deep faith, all rolled into one. Talk about a balancing act!
From Royal Courts to Monastic Cells:
Léger grew up surrounded by royalty, but he felt a stronger pull towards the Church. He became a bishop, but he wasn’t just some stuffy old guy in a fancy robe. He was out there, working to bring people together, making his city stronger, and always looking out for those in need.
Politics and Peril:
But things got messy when Léger got involved in politics. He supported one king over another, and let’s just say it didn’t make him very popular with everyone. He ended up getting exiled, tortured, and eventually executed. Talk about a tough break!
A Legacy of Courage:
Even though he faced some serious challenges, Léger never gave up on his faith. He stood up for what he believed in, even when it cost him everything. That’s what makes him a saint – his unwavering courage and commitment to doing what’s right.
So, what can we learn from St. Léger today? Well, maybe it’s that even when things get complicated, we should always try to do what’s right, even if it’s not the easy thing. And maybe, just maybe, we can all find a little bit of that saintly strength within ourselves.
