Daily Gospel Reading: Luke 11:15-26 NRSVCE
In Luke 11:15-26, Jesus deals with some serious accusations. People are saying he’s using demonic power to do miracles. But Jesus sets the record straight, showing them that a house divided against itself can’t stand. He then shares a powerful parable about the importance of staying spiritually alert. It’s a reminder that following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision; it’s an ongoing battle against the forces that try to pull us away from Him.
United We Stand
Think about a sports team or a musical group. If everyone’s doing their own thing, not working together, they’ll never win a game or play a decent song. Jesus uses this idea to show that Satan, the enemy of our souls, wouldn’t work against himself. It just doesn’t make sense!
We see this principle in our own lives. When families fight amongst themselves, they become weak and vulnerable. When communities are divided, they can’t accomplish their goals. But when we stand together, supporting each other and working towards a common purpose, we become stronger.
Recognizing God’s Power
Jesus makes it clear that his power to heal and cast out demons comes from God. It’s like a light bulb that can only shine when it’s connected to a power source. We can’t do anything good on our own; we need God’s strength working in and through us.
Think about a time when you’ve felt God’s power at work in your life – maybe it was a miraculous healing, a sense of peace in the midst of a storm, or the strength to overcome a difficult challenge. Those moments remind us that God is real and that He’s actively involved in our lives.
Guarding Your Heart
Jesus tells a story about an evil spirit that leaves a person but then comes back with even more evil spirits if the person doesn’t fill that empty space with good things. It’s like cleaning your house but leaving the doors and windows open for the mess to return.
We all have those areas in our lives where we’re vulnerable to temptation – maybe it’s anger, gossip, or unhealthy habits. This story reminds us that we need to be vigilant, to guard our hearts and minds, and to fill our lives with things that draw us closer to God.
No Sitting on the Fence
Jesus says, “Whoever is not with me is against me.” It’s a strong statement, but it’s true. We can’t be lukewarm in our faith; we’re either moving towards God or away from Him.
Imagine a tug-of-war game. You can’t just stand in the middle; you have to choose a side. In the same way, we need to actively choose to follow Jesus, to live out our faith, and to be part of his team.
A Prayer for Unity and Strength:
God, help us to stand together in unity, supporting each other and working for your kingdom. Give us the strength to resist temptation and to guard our hearts against the forces that try to pull us away from you. May we always be vigilant in our faith, growing closer to you each day. Amen.
Remember: The spiritual battle is real, but we’re not fighting alone. God is with us, giving us the strength and wisdom we need to overcome any challenge. Let’s stand together, stay alert, and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.
May God bless you as you share His love, and may His love guide you in every step you take.
Amen.
