Daily Gospel Reading: Luke 15:1-10 NRSVCE

In Luke 15:1-10, Jesus tells two simple stories with a powerful message: God never gives up on us. He’s like a shepherd who searches tirelessly for a lost sheep or a woman who sweeps her house diligently until she finds a lost coin. These parables remind us that no matter how far we’ve wandered or how lost we feel, God is always searching for us, ready to welcome us back with open arms.

1. Never Too Far Gone

Imagine a child who runs away from home, thinking they can make it on their own. They might get scared, hungry, and realize they’ve made a mistake. But the parent never stops searching, never gives up hope, and rejoices when their child finally returns. That’s how God feels about us.

  • We all have those moments when we feel lost, disconnected from God, or like we’ve messed up too badly to be forgiven. This passage reminds us that God’s love is relentless. He never stops pursuing us, no matter how far we’ve strayed.

2. A Celebration in Heaven

Jesus says there’s more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need to repent. It’s like a family throwing a huge party to celebrate the return of a loved one who’s been missing for years.

  • Think about a time when you’ve experienced the joy of reconciliation – maybe after a disagreement with a friend, a falling out with a family member, or even a time when you’ve felt distant from God and then reconnected with Him. That feeling of coming home is something God celebrates with all of heaven.

3. You Are Valued

The lost sheep and the lost coin represent every single one of us. We might feel insignificant or lost in the crowd, but God sees us, He values us, and He rejoices when we turn back to Him.

  • Imagine a teacher who notices a quiet student struggling in the back of the classroom. They take the time to help that student, to encourage them, and to see their potential. That’s how God sees us. He knows our struggles, our strengths, and our unique value in His kingdom.

A Prayer for Those Who Feel Lost:

God, thank you for never giving up on us, even when we wander away. Help us to hear your voice calling us back to you. Fill us with the joy of your forgiveness and the assurance that we are loved and valued, no matter what. Amen.

Remember: You are not lost in God’s eyes. He’s searching for you, He loves you, and He’s waiting to welcome you home with open arms.

May God bless you as you share His love, and may His love guide you in every step you take.

Amen.
